When a fire broke out in an under construction building of Serum Institute of India on Thursday, some laborers working on contract were able to save their lives by jumping from one floor to another on time. Know the tragedy of workers:
Avinash Kumar, a contract laborer in the fourth-fifth floor most affected five-storey under construction building, said that he immediately came out of the building along with some other colleagues as soon as the smoke of the fire was seen. He said,
“As soon as we saw smoke coming from somewhere in the building, we immediately left the floor where we were working.”
However, all the workers were not as fortunate as Avinash and his colleagues during the incident. In this incident, five laborers working in the building were killed. Fire crews recovered their bodies from the fifth floor of the building. Kumar said, “Our two companions Bipin Kumar and Ramashankar could not come out of the building in time and got stuck on a floor inside.” The fourth and fifth floors of the building were affected by the fire incident.

Sudhanshu Kumar, another laborer working in the building, said that the fire incident took place at around 2.15 pm. He said, “As soon as there was a fire, we ran to the safe place. However, some of our companions got caught in the fire.
200 to 300 laborers were present
Sudhanshu Kumar said, “Around 200 to 300 laborers were present in the building at that time. Insulation, sliding and other works were being done in the building. “They don’t know much about how the fire started, but as soon as the fire broke out, they raced to save their lives.
Jumped and saved life
Sudhanshu Kumar said that some laborers saved their lives by jumping from one floor to another. However, his two companions could not come out of time.

Meanwhile, Nationalist Congress Party MLA Chetan Tupe from Hadapsar informed the names of the five workers who died. It includes Ramashankar Harijan, Bipin Saroj, Sushil Kumar Pandey, Mahendra Ingale and Prateek Paste. When contacted, Zone 5 Deputy Commissioner of Police Namrata Patil said that the identity of the dead and the victims is on. We have registered a case of fire incident and investigation is going on.
